Bees Drop Exhibition to LumberKings

Bees Drop Exhibition to LumberKings

Clinton, Iowa – The Burlington Bees opened the 2024 season at a blistering pace, but their
offense ran out of gas as they dropped an exhibition game to the Clinton LumberKings May 28
at NelsonCorp Field.

Due to the game being an exhibition, it will not count towards either team's record or statistics.

The Bees wasted no time, with Cedric Dunwall (Iowa City, Iowa/Mount Mercy University)
driving a deep double to the wall in the first inning, scoring two.

After giving up a run in the bottom of the inning, Jackson Reid (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler-Gilbert
CC) capitalized on a sacrifice fly to put Burlington up 3-1 through the top of the second.

Burlington trailed entering the fourth, but the bats came alive once more. Reid picked up his
second RBI on a sacrifice fly, and Landon Akers (Louisville, Ky./Bellarmine University) brought
home another on an infield single to make it 5-4.

The LumberKings chipped away, scoring one in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to make it 6-5,
which remained until the final out.

Preston Kaufman (Oswego, Ill./Marian University) made the start after playing for the Bees last
season. He allowed two hits, four earned runs, and five walks.

Three other pitchers came out in relief for the Bees, with returner Kyle Looper (Utopia,
Texas/Texas Wesleyan University) leading the way with two shutout innings.

The Bees officially open their season May 29 at Community Field at 6:30 p.m. The team takes
on the Alton River Dragons, with the Magnet Schedule giveaway, the Buff City Soap giveaway
and Opening Night Fireworks all taking place.
