LumberKings' Bats Come Alive At Cape

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO-  After four straight losses, the Clinton LumberKings bats came alive in Cape Girardeau, Mo on Thursday night. The LumberKings defeated the Cape Catfish by a score of 8-4.

 

On the mound for Clinton, Jackson Kent (Arizona) made his fifth start of the year. The lefty was effective, going five innings, allowing just three runs to cross and striking out four.

 

Clinton would score all eight of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth the LumberKings scored on an RBI single from Isaiah Thompson (Indiana State) and Trevor Burkhart (LSU-Shreveport) drove in a run on a fielder's choice making it 2-0.

 

In the sixth Luke Ira (South Dakota St) started things off by reaching on a catcher's interference. Clinton took advantage, loading the bases for Eddie Saucedo (Madison College) who knocked in three with a double, his first hit of the season. Later, Joe Simpson (Kirkwood CC) drove in a pair with a triple, giving Clinton a 7-0 lead. The LumberKings tallied one more in the inning, moving to the bottom of the sixth with an 8-0 advantage.

 

Cape answered with a four spot in the bottom half of the sixth, but Clinton's bullpen held them at four.

 

The Bullpen for Clinton allowed one run over four innings of work. Three innings came from Nick Scanlon (Kirkwood CC) who allowed just one run and Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) got the final three outs in the ninth. 

 

Clinton won the ball game 8-4, snapping a four-game losing streak in the process.

 

The LumberKings now travel to Springfield, Ill to take on the Lucky Horseshoes tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
