Clinton Drops First Game In Burlington

BURLINGTON, IOWA- After two straight victories, the Clinton LumberKings lost the series  opener in Burlington, Iowa against the Bees 4-1.

 

All five combined runs in the ball game came in the first two innings of the game. 

 

In the top half of the first inning the Clinton LumberKings struck first. Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) blooped a double to right field, scoring Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) all the way from first base. The run gave Clinton a 1-0 lead.

 

The LumberKing advantage didn't last long. In the bottom half of the first the Bees scored two. Kevin Santiago (Texas Wesleyan University) belted a two-run blast, his fifth home run of the year, making it 2-1. 

 

Burlington scored two more in the second and took the game 4-1, as both teams held each other scoreless after inning number two. 

 

In the game both starting pitchers earned decisions. For Burlington, Ian Landreneau (Texas Wesleyan University) earned his second win of the season. Landreneau tossed five innings, allowed just one run and struck out four enroute to the victory.

 

LumberKings starter Jacob Norris (Des Moines Area CC) suffered the loss. Norris lasted 4.2 innings, allowing four runs and striking out seven.

 

The save went to Jaxon Ingram (Texas Wesleyan University) who pitched two innings of scoreless baseball for Burlington.

 

Clinton and Burlington are set to do battle again at Community Field, tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
