Pistol Shrimp Win Northwest Division Title Over LumberKings

PERU, Ill. — The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp clinched the 2024 Prospect League Northwest Division title with a 3-0 victory over the Clinton LumberKings on Thursday night at Schweickert Stadium.

The Pistol Shrimp (36-21) struck early with a run in the first inning when Louis Perona singled to center field, driving in Kyle Gibson. Gibson had an outstanding night, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Illinois Valley added another run in the third inning on Tyler Dorsch's RBI single to left field, again scoring Gibson. The final run came in the eighth inning when Gibson doubled to right-center, bringing Peyton Burgh home.

Clinton (34-22) struggled offensively, managing only two hits throughout the game. Bryan Belo and James Hackett each had a hit, but the LumberKings could not capitalize, leaving eight runners on base.

Ean DiPasquale (4-1) took the loss for Clinton, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings while striking out three and walking one. Jack Turgasen and Sam Lavin combined for the final three innings, giving up one run on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

Pistol Shrimp pitchers Zach Kempe and Jared Herzog were dominant on the mound. Kempe pitched four innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four. Herzog (5-0) earned the win with five hitless innings, walking four and striking out 10.

With the victory, the Pistol Shrimp secured their spot as the Northwest Division champions, advancing to the Westen Divison Championship game against the Thrillville Thrillbillies on Saturday at Schwiekert Stadium.
